ORGANELLES
Exploring Interconnectedness:
A Ceramic Sculpture Inspired by Cell Biology
The Organelles are organic forms inspired by my background in the beauty industry as a dermal therapist, where I studied the structure of skin and cells. These pieces convey the interconnectedness of all life forms, emphasizing that every living thing is cellular.
Creating these ceramic sculptures involves meticulous handbuilding techniques, including coiling and sculpting. This ancient coiling technique allows me to build each organelle layer by layer, evoking a sense of organic growth and interconnectedness.
A distinguishing aspect of my work is the deliberate choice to retain the natural color and texture of raw clay. This approach accentuates the organic quality of the forms, honoring the intrinsic beauty of nature. The earthy tones and inherent tactility of the raw clay invite viewers to engage with each sculpture on a deeper level.
