Artist Statement
The Organelle series emerged from my exploration of displacement and belonging. As someone who lived away from home for many years, I became fascinated by the universal structures that connect all living things at a cellular level.
Inspired by the Aboriginal understanding of "Country" that I encountered while living in Australia, these pieces reflect on the profound connections between all forms of life. The pleated structures reference cellular membranes and organelles—the fundamental components shared by all living organisms.
Each piece is meticulously handcrafted as a one-of-a-kind artwork, with carefully selected clay bodies fired at specific temperatures to preserve their natural colors and textures. The forms invite contemplation of our shared biological heritage and the intricate patterns that unite all life.
